In his historical novel "The Prince and the Pauper," Mark Twain employs the literary motif of mistaken twins, reminiscent of Shakespeare's works. Set in 16th-century England, the story begins with the birth of two boys on the same day in London, who are identical in appearance: Edward Tudor, the Prince of Wales, and Tom Canty, the son of a thief and a beggar.
